Marissa started gymnastics when she was six years old. Her oldest sister and her boyfriend were babysitting Marissa and it seemed like she just could not keep still. Also around this time, Marissa was frequently in and out of the emergency room because she would try to do flips and tricks on her own. These trips occurred so often that the doctors had to pull Marissa's parents in separate room to interrogate them! After a long day of playing, Marissa's parents came home to two frantic babysitters desperate for them to put Marissa into some type of sport to burn off energy. Gymnastics was thrown up into the air and the rest is history.

As a level 8 gymnast in 2014, Marissa placed fourth in the all-around with a 37.025 and third on vault and balance beam at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 7 Championships, finishing third in the all-around with a 37.550 and first on balance beam scoring a 9.800. Her beam score of 9.800 placed her in America's Top 100 in level 8! In 2015, Marissa qualified to the Level 9 Regionals.

Marissa had bad luck with injuries the next few seasons. She moved up to level 10 for the 2015-2016 season but her season was cut short due to broken knee. During the 2016-2017 season, she qualified to the State Championships but was unable to compete in the post-season due to stress fracture in her back. During the 2018-2019 season, Marissa tore her ACL and went through a very long recovery process. She came back healthy for the 2019-2020 season. She placed in the top three in every meet she competed in and qualified to the Level 10 State Championships. Unfortunately, her season was cut short due to COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Marissa placed second on uneven bars and seventh on vault at the Region 7 Championships.

When Marissa isn't busy training 25 hours each week in the gym, she enjoys playing the viola and sewing. She is an honor student at North Point High School and she will graduate in 2022. She has been on Principal's Honor Roll since her freshman year. Marissa does community service through the Explorers Program that is run through the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
