Maya Reyes was born on April 11, 2002 in South Carolina to Enrique and Tara Reyes. She has two sisters, Sidney and Crystal and a dog named Shela. Currently, Maya is an honor student at Scholars Academy High School (Base school: Carolina Forest High School) and she will graduate from high school in 2020. Some of Maya's school awards include:

Maya started gymnastics when she was three years old. Her mom stayed at home and wanted her to get some social interaction and physical activity. When Maya was at her old gym, she finished first in the all-around and first on vault and uneven bars at the 2009 Level 4 State Championships. At the 2010 Level 5 State Championships, she placed first in the all-around with a 37.450, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. As a level 6 gymnast in 2011, Maya won the all-around title with a 38.325 and grabbed gold medals on all events at the State Championships.

Following Maya's level 6 season in 2011, she moved to Gymnastics & More in Little River, SC. She moved up to level 7 for the 2012 season where she won the all-around title with a 37.725. She also placed first on vault, balance beam and floor exercise. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships, finishing ninth in the all-around with a 38.050 and fourth on balance beam. As a level 8 gymnast, Maya placed third in the all-around and second on balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she finished second in the all-around with a 37.725 and second on vault and balance beam. Maya moved up to level 9 in 2014. At the State Championships, she placed second in the all-around and second on vault and uneven bars. She had a great meet at the Region 8 Championships, finishing fifth in the all-around with a 37.075 and fourth on vault and balance beam. Maya qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Kissimmee, FL where she placed seventh in the all-around and fifth on uneven bars.

As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2015, Maya placed fourth in the all-around and third on vault at the State Championships. She qualified to Regionals. In 2016, Maya was unable to compete at the State Championships due to an injury. She came back healthy for the 2017 season where she placed fourth in the all-around and second on uneven bars at the State Championships. She qualified to Regionals. In 2018, Maya placed fourth in the all-around at the State Championships and qualified to Regionals. In 2019, Maya placed fourth on uneven bars at the State Championships.

Maya trains about 18 hours per week at Gymnastics & More in Little River, SC under coaches Louie Liguori & Rebecca Fort. Maya is working hard to qualify to the Junior Olympic Nationals the next few years and to obtain a college gymnastics scholarship.
