Skylar McKinley Hupp was born on September 8, 2004 in Austin, TX to Jon and Karen Hupp. She has a brother, Sterling, three dogs named Remy, Ollie and Snuffy and a rabbit, Herbie. Currently, Skylar is a student at Lake Travis High School and she will graduate from high school in 2023. When Skylar has time outside of gymnastics, she enjoys skiing, playing basketball and lacrosse, riding her bike and horseback riding.

Skylar attended a "My Gym" class and ever since she was hooked. She took tap, jazz and ballet classes before she tried out gymnastics at the age of five. Skylar started her competitive gymnastics career at National Elite Gymnastics (NEG) in Austin, TX. When she was at NEG, she finished ninth in the all-around with a 37.975, first on vault and fourth on floor exercise at the 2012 Level 5 State Championships. She tested out of level 6 and immediately moved up to level 7. In 2013, she began training at Capital Gymnastics in Cedar Park, TX.

As a level 7 gymnast in 2014, Skylar finished in the top 20 in the all-around with a 37.200 and sixth on uneven bars at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she finished fifth on vault and seventh on uneven bars. Skylar moved up to level 8 for the 2015 season. She scored a 37.875 in the all-around at the State Championships and qualified to the Region 3 Championships.

In 2016, Skylar competed as a level 9 gymnast. She finished second in the all-around with a 37.875, third on balance beam, fourth on floor exercise and fifth on vault at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, Skylar placed tenth in the all-around with a 37.000, fourth on vault and eighth on floor exercise. Skylar was named alternate for the Level 9 Western Nationals.

As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2017, Skylar finished fourth on floor exercise with a 9.450 at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 3 Championships where she placed seventh on floor exercise. In 2018, Skylar placed fifth on floor exercise with a 9.250 at the State Championships. At the Region 3 Championships, she finished in the top ten on vault. In May of 2018, Skylar moved to Austin Elite Gymnastics Training Center in Lakeway, TX. Skylar placed eighth on floor exercise at the 2019 State Championships, qualifying to Regionals. In 2020, Skylar qualified to the Level 10 State Championships but was unable to compete due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Skylar trains 27.5 hours each week at AcroTex Gymnastics in Round Rock, TX under coach Daire O’Ceallag. Skylar is working hard to qualify to the Junior Olympic Nationals and to obtain a Division I college gymnastics scholarship.
