Ava was watching the 2012 Olympics and asked her parents if she could start taking gymnastics classes. She began her gymnastics career at Gold Medal Gymnastics in Centereach, NY at the age of six. She was the 2017 Level 5 NY State All-Around Bronze Medalist, 2018 Level 7 NY State All-Around and Balance Beam Champion and 2018 Level 7 Regional Vault & Bars Champion and All-Around Silver Medalist. Ava was named to America's Top 100 on vault with a 9.800. Ava was invited to the Region 6 Development Camp.

In 2019, Ava moved up to level 8 and qualified to the State Championships. Ava was invited to the Region 6 Development Camp. She qualified to the 2020 Level 9 State Championships but was unable to compete due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following her 2020 season, she moved to Long Island Gym Nest in North Bellport, NY. In 2021, Ava placed fourth on vault at the Level 9 State Championships and fourth in the all-around and second on balance beam at the Region 6 Championships. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals. Ava decided to move to Apex Gymnastics in St. James, NY following her 2021 season.

Ava had a great 2022 season in her final level 9 season. She finished second in the all-around and first on floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she finished second in the all-around, first on vault and second on floor exercise. Ava qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals where she placed 13th overall and third on vault.

Ava moved up to level 10 for the 2023 season. She finished sixth in the all-around and qualified to the Region 6 Championships. In 2024, Ava placed sixth in the all-around and fifth on uneven bars at the Level 10 State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she finished seventh on balance beam.

When Ava isn't busy training 22 hours each week in the gym, she enjoys hanging out with her friends, drawing and baking. She is the daughter of Michael and Alison Kelly and she has a twin brother, Sean and two bunnies named Bunny and Meatball. Currently, Ava is an honor student at Ward Melville High School and she will graduate in 2025.
