Hailey Smallwood was born on January 10, 2005 in Ohio to Mark and Kelly Smallwood. She has two sisters, Emily and Kirsten and a dog named Maizey. Currently, Hailey is an honor student at St. Johns Virtual School and she will graduate from high school in 2023. She maintains a 4.0 GPA in all advanced classes. During Hailey's spare time, she enjoys reading, organizing, doodling and listening to music.
Hailey started gymnastics when she was 11 months old in a Mom and Me class at Creekside Flipsters Gymnastics. Her mom did gymnastics when she was a kid and had a great experience and she wanted to share that passion with Hailey. Hailey has been training at Starlight Gymnastics in Jacksonville, FL her whole competitive gymnastics career.
As a level 7 gymnast in 2015, Hailey placed sixth in the all-around and fourth on vault, balance beam and floor exercise at the State Championships. She moved up to level 8 for the 2016 season where she placed third in the all-around with a 37.775, second on vault and third on balance beam. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships, finishing eighth in the all-around, second on vault and fourth on floor exercise. Hailey was named to America's Top 100 on vault.
In 2017 as a level 9 gymnast, Hailey placed fourth in the all-around, first on vault and fifth on uneven bars and floor exercise. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships but was unable to compete due to an injury. In 2018, Hailey finished fifth in the all-around, second on floor exercise and third on vault at the Level 9 State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships, finishing first on vault with a 9.600 and second on floor exercise scoring a 9.500. Hailey was unable to compete in 2019 due to an injury.
Hailey qualified to the 2020 Level 10 State Championships but was unable to compete due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Hailey trains 26 hours per week at Starlight Gymnastics in Jacksonville, FL under coaches Vessy Danialova and Cheri Gillikin. Hailey is working hard to become a successful level 10 gymnast as well as to obtain a Division I college scholarship.
