Lani was named Student of the Month by her school today!

Congratulations to Lanie Stone who is being honored by the North Myrtle Beach Optimist club as the September Student of the Month. Lanie is the daughter of Kevin and Mary K. Stone and is in the 8th grade at North Myrtle Beach Middle School. She is a member of the United Buddy Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Jr. Beta.

Away from school, Lanie is involved with serving her community. She has participated in hurricane donation/relief efforts, the Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics of South Carolina, nad the Myrtle Beach Special Olympics. She volunteers with the Hotshots Gymnastics class and at various events with Gymnastics and More. She has also donated supplies for Toys for Tots and for students in Horry County Schools. Lanie excels after school being a member of the Ocean Flipper Competitive Gymnastics Team as a Level 10 gymnast at Gymnastics and More. Through her acts of kindness, she is able to be a positive role model for other students and improve her community's environment. Lanie's message to other students would be "Determination Today leads to Success Tomorrow." She has learned through her own struggles with balancing gymnastics and school that no matter what obstacles you face in school, sports, or everyday life, you should strive to always persevere day by day with determination for whatever your goal may be.

During high school, Lanie plans to maintain excellent grades and participate in as many clubs/activities that her schedule allows. She also wants to be a role model for her peers at school and also younger gymnasts. After high school, Lanie wants to obtain a Division 1 Athletic Scholarship for Gymnastics and Major in Nursing. Her goal is to become a Nurse Anesthetist.

The Student of the Month is selected by a committee of teachers. The selection is based on community service, academic achievement, personal effort, and positive behavior.
