Mackenzie began taking recreational gymnastics classes at Carolina Gymnastics in Wilmington, NC at the age of five. Mackenzie and her family relocated to Huntersville, NC where she started her competitive gymnastics career at Everest Gymnastics in Huntersville, NC and has been there ever since. Mackenzie was the 2016 Level 3 NC Uneven Bars, Floor Exercise and All-Around Champion, 2017 Level 4 NC State Uneven Bars Champion and 2018 Level 5 NC State Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and All-Around Champion. Mackenzie was named to America's Top 100 in level 5 on vault, uneven bars (3x), floor exercise and all-around (3x).

In 2019, Mackenzie skipped level 6 and quickly moved up to level 7. She placed second on vault and sixth on floor exercise at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships, finishing second on floor exercise and fourth on uneven bars. Mackenzie qualified to the 2020 Level 8 State Championships but was unable to compete due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mackenzie moved up to level 9 for the 2021 season. She won the uneven bars title at the State Championships with a 9.725. At the Region 8 Championships, she finished second in the all-around with a 37.350 and first on uneven bars with a 9.725. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals where she finished seventh in the all-around with a 37.175, third on vault and fourth on uneven bars. Mackenzie was named America's Top 100 on uneven bars twice.

As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2022, Mackenzie finished fourth in the all-around with a 37.250 and third on uneven bars at the State Championships. She qualified to the Region 8 Championships, finishing in the top ten in the all-around, fifth on vault and sixth on uneven bars. In 2023, Mackenzie placed fourth on balance beam at the State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she finished third in the all-around with a 37.550, second on floor exercise and third on uneven bars. She qualified to the Level 10 Nationals in Oklahoma City, OK where she scored a 37.400 in the all-around.

In 2024, Mackenzie placed third in the all-around with a 37.700 and fifth on uneven bars and balance beam at the Level 10 State Championships. At the Region 8 Championships, she finished seventh in the all-around and third on uneven bars. She qualified to the Level 10 Nationals in Daytona Beach, FL where she placed in the top 25 in the all-around, second on uneven bars and ninth on floor exercise out of 57 gymnasts.

When Mackenzie isn't busy training 20 hours each week in the gym, she enjoys reading, drawing, painting and traveling. She is the daughter of Sekina and RuDon Showers and she has two siblings; Mckennon and Marissa. Currently, Mackenzie is an honor student at Hopewell High School and she will graduate in 2026. Mackenzie is a member of Honors BETA Club and National Honor Society.
