Tessa Sutton was born on August 21, 2004 in Rochester, NY to Robert and Karen Sutton. She has two sisters, Olivia and Eve and a brother, Tracer. Tessa is a student at Ogburn Online Schooling and she will graduate from high school in 2022.

Tessa was constantly in motion when she was a toddler, so her parents enrolled her into gymnastics for fun when she was three years old. Tessa quickly progressed in the sport after moving up to pre-team at the Rochester Gymnastics Academy in Rochester, NY. As a level 5 gymnast in 2012, Tessa finished first in the all-around with a 37.650, first on vault and second on balance beam at the State Championships. She moved up to level 6 for the 2013 season where she placed first in the all-around with a 37.925, first on vault and uneven bars and third on balance beam.

As a level 7 gymnast in 2014, Tessa finished second in the all-around with a 37.750, first on uneven bars and fourth on floor exercise at the State Championships. She moved up to level 8 for the 2015 season. At the State Championships, Tessa won the all-around title with a 38.475 and grabbed gold medals on vault, uneven bars and in the all-around. She qualified to the Region 6 Championships, finishing first in the all-around with a 38.075, first on uneven bars and second on balance beam and floor exercise.

Tessa competed as a level 9 gymnast the next two seasons. In 2016, she placed fifth in the all-around and first on uneven bars at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, Tessa finished first in the all-around with a 37.400, first on uneven bars and floor exercise and second on vault. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Virginia Beach, VA. At the Nationals, Tessa placed 13th overall with a 37.025 and seventh on floor exercise. Tessa had a great season in 2017 where she grabbed gold medals on vault, uneven bars, balance beam and in the all-around with a 38.000 at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, Tessa finished first in the all-around with a 38.075 and swept gold medals on all events. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals in Lansing, MI where she placed fifth in the all-around with a 37.625 and first on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise.

As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2018, Tessa finished first in the all-around with a 38.075, first on uneven bars and second on vault at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she placed first in the all-around, first on vault and second on uneven bars. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Cincinnati, OH where she finished impressive seventh in the all-around with a 37.675 and fifth on uneven bars.

In 2019, Tessa placed second in the all-around, first on balance beam and second on uneven bars and floor exercise at the Region 6 Championships. She qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Indianapolis, IN where she finished in the top 15 in the all-around and eighth on balance beam. In 2020, Tessa qualified to the Level 10 State Championships but was unable to compete due to COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Tessa placed second in the all-around with a 37.800 and second on uneven bars and floor exercise at the State Championships. At the Region 6 Championships, she finished fifth in the all-around, first on vault and second on uneven bars. This qualified Tessa to the Junior Olympic Nationals in Daytona Beach, FL where she placed 13th on balance beam out of 57 gymnasts.

Tessa trains 34 hours per week at Rochester Gymnastics Academy in Rochester, NY under coaches Youlia and Barry Coss. Tessa is working hard to qualify to the Junior Olympic Nationals every year. Her long-term goal is to obtain a Division I college gymnastics scholarship.
